BandanaMan believes that the information below will answer many of your questions concerning all aspects of artwork. If you have questions concerning artwork, getting quotes, please read through this section first. If you cannot find the answer, we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED ARTWORK?

In the custom bandana business, artwork would be any image, graphic, text, or any combination of those three, that is to be printed on the bandana. Most of you know that graphics, logos, etc., are artwork. But, text is also considered artwork if it is to be printed.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCREEN PRINTING AND PIGMENT PRINTING?

The difference between screen printing and pigment printing (sometimes called discharge or roller printing) is this:

Screen printing is artwork that is silk screened onto a bandana after the bandana has been manufactured. Pigment printing is artwork that is actually IN the bandana material. In other words, when the physical bandana is created, the artwork is included in the material. Screen printing puts the ink on the bandana. Pigment printing puts the ink IN the bandana fabric.

Pigment printing has a soft 'hand'. You cannot 'feel' the artwork in pigment printing like you can with some screen printing. Pigment printing is also a much more cost effective way to print, if you are printing large quantities. The normal minimum amount for a pigment printed job, using 22 inch bandanas, is 10,000. For 27 inch bandanas or larger, the normal minimum is 10,000.

WHAT DOES 1 COLOR ARTWORK MEAN? 2 COLOR ARTWORK? ETC.

1 color artwork is artwork that contains only one color. Taking this further, 2 color artwork would be artwork that has 2 colors in it, and so on. Now, one reason you should request a price quote on your artwork is that many times artwork that you consider 2 color can actually be printed as a 1 color print. How? On some artwork we can print it so the bandana color can become one of the colors in your artwork. On the other hand, artwork that may be considered one color can actually be a two color print if it requires an underprint, which would be considered another color.

There is also something called 4 color process. This is obviously artwork that contains more than 4 colors. This would include photographs, and detailed artwork that contains many colors and must be converted to 4 individual colors for screen printing and converted to 6-8 colors for pigment printing. This kind of artwork needs to be color separated so it may be screen printed. We strongly suggest that you do the color separations as we must charge $75.00 per color to separate the artwork.

HOW LONG DOES THE PRINTING TAKE?

We normally request that you allow us 10-14 days for screen printing. For pigment printing we need a minimum of 6-8 weeks to complete the job. We would need 8-12 weeks for orders of 1 million or more.

DO WE DO RUSH ORDERS?

Rush screen printing orders are available, and there are additional costs. No rush orders available on pigment printing. A Rush order is an order that must be completed within 10 calendar days of BandanaMan receiving the completed artwork and an Artwork Approval Form (supplied by BandanaMan).

WHAT IS A SET-UP CHARGE?

This is for custom screen printing. In screen printing, a 'screen' is created for each color in the artwork. These screens are normally made out of screen mesh. The set-up charge covers the cost for creating these screens. Pigment printing prices usually include the set-up charges.

WHAT IS THE PHYSICAL PRINT AREA ON THE BANDANA?

This depends on which bandana style you decide on. Please see the table below. The examples shown are for custom screen printing.

Circular Open Centers

Square Open Centers

Blanks (Solids)
The print area of this bandana is the open area in the middle of the bandana. Your artwork can be no larger than 8.5 inches in diameter. The print area of this bandana is the open area in the middle of the bandana. Your artwork can be no larger than 10.0 inches square. For the 22" solids, the print area for screen printing is no more than 17 inches square. For the 27" solids, the print area would be no more than 17 inches square.

For pigment printing, your artwork can bleed off the edge of the bandana if you like. Contact us for specs on 27" or larger bandanas.

WHAT FILE FORMAT SHOULD YOU USE FOR THE FINAL ARTWORK?

Once you decide to go forward with your custom printed bandana order, we will need the artwork in the correct format.

BandanaMan prefers files created in Adobe Photoshop (.pds). We can also accept Adobe Illustrator (.ai) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), (.psd) or (.tif) files. The artwork files need to be of a resolution of at least 200 dpi. 300 dpi would be better as this will give an extremely crisp print.

The artwork files need to be created in the actual physical size that the print will be. In other words, if your artwork is to be 6 inches by 5 inches on the bandana, the artwork provided must be 6 inches by 5 inches.

If you have the ability to zip up your files (compress them) we would appreciate it if you would zip them before you send them to us, particularly if the artwork is over 1 MB in size. If you do not have this ability, please do not let it stop you from sending it to us via E-mail. You can also send us artwork on a CD, diskette or zip disk via FedEx, UPS or USPS. Just send it to the address above.

Please understand that if it is in the art, it will be in the print. If the edges, lines, or special details are not crisp and clean, it will not be crisp and clean on the print. So, be very sure that when you send us the final approval that the artwork is exactly what you want to see on your custom bandana.

CAN BANDANAMAN CREATE CUSTOM ARTWORK FOR YOU?

BandanaMan does have the ability to create artwork for you. We strongly recommend that you create your own artwork for two important reasons:

1. Time: It will be much faster for you to create the artwork and send it to us than for us to create it and send it to you for your approval and/or changes.

2. Cost: We must charge $80.00 per hour for our artwork services. For custom artwork on rush orders, that cost will be $160.00 an hour.

If you do need custom artwork / typesetting done, BandanaMan does have the experience and expertise do create this for you.

WHAT ABOUT COPYRIGHTED, TRADEMARKED WORK / ARTWORK / LOGOS?

If the artwork you are considering using is copyrighted, trademarked, or is a company logo (which is also copyrighted or trademarked), we will need a Trademark, Copyright Release Form (supplied by BandanaMan) completed and returned to us, signed by the person with the authority to sign such a release.

Please do not assume that you can use artwork you have found on the Internet, in a book, magazine, or in a picture. Check it out first, copyright violations can incur serious Federal fines.
